Eligibility Information for School Age Children

All school children from Kindergarten to Year 11, limited by the need to be turning 5 years of age in the first year of enrolment and until the age of 17 years (18 years for Children attending Education Support Centres or Units), are eligible for enrolment in the School Dental Service.

Dental Health Services policy on enrolment is:
  • Eligible Kindergarten children are only enrolled when their parent(s)/guardian(s) contact a School Dental Therapy Centre.

  • Enrolment is offered to all Pre-Primary and Primary School children who attend institutions recognised by the Education Department.

  • High School students are advised of their eligibility to enrol in the School Dental Service.

  • Students who attend TAFE Colleges, etc. that come under the Department of Employment and Training are NOT ELIGIBLE.

  • For pre-school or play groups not recognised by the Education Department, enrolment is dependent on staff resources and whether a child is capable of being treated within the Service. Future enrolment will continue to be offered to any group already enrolled.

  • Children who attend Education Support Centres or Units (previously known as Special Schools) at a Primary level are eligible for enrolment with the School Dental Service, until they attain the age of 18 years. Patients attaining the age of 18 are generally considered to be adults and are therefore no longer eligible for enrolment.
