When the first dentures were made?

5 April 2018

The Etruscans (who lived in what is now central and northern Italy) had dentures two and a half thousand years ago!

Many dental bridges (false teeth between natural teeth) and partial dentures made of gold have been found in Etruscan tombs which date from 500bce.

The teeth used were from other people or animals and inserted or pinned into a gold band with metal pins.

As you can imagine, these were expensive and only the wealthy could afford them!
