To assist patients/carers/parents understand services and dental treatment being provided to patients, Dental Health Services can arrange interpreters at no cost to patients.
The State Language Services Strategy states that a patient/carer/parent has a right to a professional interpreter and that a request for a particular interpreting service can be made. This request will be accommodated where possible. Interpreting services are generally available in most languages and Auslan.
Interpreters are available by appointment and their use must be authorised by Dental Health Services staff.
Interpreters engaged by Dental Health Services are covered by confidentiality provisions and a Code of Ethics, which means patients/carers/parents can be reassured that any matters discussed at a clinic by an interpreter will remain confidential.
For further information on interpreter services, please call your local General Dental Clinic or Dental Therapy Centre. To provide feedback on the service provided by Dental Health Services staff please refer to Patient Feedback information.
